Deputy Pierson Honored During Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony

May 2, 2024 - Shelby County Sheriff Kevin W. Windham reports that during the weekend of April 27-28, 2024, fallen Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Pierson was remembered and honored during the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony at the Texas Capitol in Austin. Deputy Pierson is one of the 37 names of fallen Texas Law Enforcement Officers that were added to the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial Wall this year.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Captain DJ Dickerson had the honor and privilege to attend the weekend events as an escort officer to be with Deputy Pierson’s family to conduct name rubbings of Deputy Pierson’s name on the wall, as well as to present Deputy Pierson’s family to Texas Governor Greg Abbott for the presentation of the Medal of Honor during the ceremony.

Deputy Pierson represented the very best of us. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, but this memorial ensures that his legacy will endure. The SCSO is grateful to the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial for recognizing his service and sacrifice.
